Jam making
This week was spent by going out and about in order to find a pick your own strawberry place. Luckily we found one we liked the look off, just outside Tiverton.
Two trips later and we had 5 kilos of strawberrys and a kilo of raspberries
And very nice they were, too.
We didn’t eat them all though. The 4 kilos of strawberrys have made 15 jars of jam, and the remains of the raspberries made 2.5 jars of the jam. And very nice they all taste.
As for whether it is cheaper than buying in the shops. Well… At least we know what has gone into them, and they do taste better than the shop bought processed stuff.
Next on the list is the making of the xmas pudding and mince meat. The earlier made, the better.
Horrible cold (and not the weather)
It has taken over a week to mostly get over the rather nasty cold I have had. Sore throat, followed 3 days latter with a dreadful cold. Not a pleasant experience at all, but apparently not uncommon. A nasty variety of the bug going around at the moment.
The only comfort was that I finally had the chance to listen to Stephen Fry reading one of the Harry Potter books as I spent a couple of days in bed, unable to see (colds always go to my eyes), and rather out of it all on massive amounts of cold care stuff.
Now, trying to get better…
Not helped by all this hot weather we are having.
Many upgrades
Posted by admin in Change log on May 28, 2010
Having been offline for a while, there were many upgrades to various parts of the blog. All upgraded now, but it got me to thinking that I would no longer detail the upgrades to the blog, and any problems I had with them.
The whole blog needs refreshing a bit, and with the blogs main software base being renewed soon, it seems like a good opportunity to close this particular category, whilst still keeping the blog running. Most of the upgrades tend to be invisble anyway, to anyone looking at the site.
So, if you find yourself here, in the Change Log category.
There is nothing to see here.
This is not the category you were looking for.
Move along now…..
Back online
After having had a new pc for a few weeks (and waiting for a new modem) I got bored and bit the bullet and bought a network cable to use with it. Modems have been postponed for a bit, so I now have a loonnngggg cable from my room to the phone point. All everyone has to do is remember not to trip over it, or close a door on it
What’s happened since the last post. Not a lot.
We went to visit my brother and his family in their temporay place and I brought back a throat infection and cold.
Oh. And we had a general election and got a very European style of government in.
A government that is, apparently, going to blame the previous government and the unemployed for everything that is wrong with the country. I have to admit the previous lot did a fair bit of damage in their cack-handed attempt to reduce the country to penury.
Though I have to wonder how the 7 million or so people on benefits are going to share the 500,000 jobs on offer? Especially as most jobs are poorly (excuse the pun) paid, many are part-time, some are advertising positions that have already been filled, while others are phantom jobs, simply listed so that employers can harvest c.v.’s.
Market force’s at work
Here is something odd that I have noticed is happening on Amazon.
Over the last week or two I have been browsing the Amazon site for rpg bits and pieces. I even bought the D&D set and some figures for when my nephews visit.
The interesting thing is, the way the price of the items varies so much. I paid £10 less than the present price for the D&D set. A couple of sets of the figures are now twice the price I paid. Not that I am complaining or anything. It was a great saving for me, though I would be a bit miffed if I bought them now. All this price variation occured within 10 days, or so.
I find it difficult to believe that a D&D book set can be so price sensitive to demand.
I am seriously thinking that the next time I buy anything I will put it in my online basket, take it out, and put it in again over a period of several days, just to see what effect it has on the price. It can’t hurt, and might generate a saving.
